About Me
Hello, I’m Alegra Roybal (she/her/hers). I’m a New Mexican woman, born and raised in Pojoaque, and my work as a therapist is deeply shaped by place, culture, and relationship. My practice is inspired by the Chimajá (chim-a-ha), a plant native to Northern New Mexico that blooms each season despite challenging conditions. I hold this as a reminder that healing is not about avoiding hardship, but about cultivating strong roots that allow for growth, resilience, and renewal over time.
I earned my BA from Colorado College and my Masters of Social Work from Boston University. Outside the therapy space, I enjoy reading fantasy, tap dancing, and spending time with my three cats!
Much of my career has been dedicated to working with survivors of violence, particularly sexual and family violence. I also support individuals navigating substance use, depression, anxiety, and complex trauma, including experiences related to genocide and high-demand or cultic religious environments. I approach this work with humility and deep respect for the ways people survive and adapt.
My approach to therapy is integrative, relational, and trauma-informed. I draw from EMDR, IFS-informed therapy, attachment-based work, feminist therapy, and supportive approaches I am focused on adapting our work together to what feels most supportive for you. Just as the Chimajá draws strength from multiple roots, I believe healing is supported by flexibility, responsiveness, and attention to the whole person.
I am gender-affirming and have worked closely with marginalized communities for many years, including LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and disabled folks. Trauma affects each person differently, and therapy should honor the full context of your identity, history, and lived experience.
I view the therapeutic space as a sacred space — a place where safety, trust, and care create the conditions for growth. My role is not to fix you, but to walk alongside you as we explore what has shaped you and create opportunities for meaningful shifts toward wholeness and self-assurance.
It would be an honor to be a small part of your healing work, and I look forward to meeting you!
